Founder's Day
On July 9 Davis College celebrated its 150th Anniversary with its Founder’s Day event. This meaningful day marked the date the institution was founded in 1858. Hundreds of individuals from the College’s past attended the event to share decades of memories with today’s generation of Davis students. The oldest Davis alumni to attend Founder’s Day graduated from the College in 1935.

To honor the day the College first opened its doors in 1858 many of the Davis staff and faculty members wore period clothing. The daylong festivities also included the opening of the Davis College Heritage Museum, the unveiling of the Heritage Brick display, and the debut of the Heritage Book entitled It’s All About Where You’re Going: A Visual History of Davis College.

During Founder’s Day local and state dignitaries visited the College and presented Davis President Diane Brunner with proclamations honoring the institution’s 150th Anniversary. Ohio Senator Mark Wagoner, Ohio Representative Peter Ujvagi, Dave Rankin from the Ohio Association of Career College’s and Schools, Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, Toledo City Councilman George Sarantou, Toledo City Councilman Tom Waniewski, Lucas County Recorder Jeanine Perry, and representing the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, Regional Economic Development Director Eileen Granata each honored the College with their presence and kind words. This special day was also about giving thanks to the Toledo area. Since January Davis College has given back to the community by donating $1858 to different charities each month. Everyone who attended Founder’s Day was asked to vote on which charity would receive the donation for the month of July. The charity chosen at the event was the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Diabetes Association, which was a very close second, will receive the donation for the month of August.
